ExoMars TGO/NOMAD‐UVIS Vertical Profiles of Ozone: 2. The High‐Altitude Layers of Atmospheric Ozone

چکیده
Solar occultations performed by the Nadir and Occultation for MArs Discovery (NOMAD) ultraviolet visible spectrometer (UVIS) onboard ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter (TGO) have provided a comprehensive mapping of atmospheric ozone density. The observations here extend over full Mars year (MY) between April 21, 2018 at beginning TGO science operations during late northern summer on (MY 34, Ls = 163°) March 9, 2020 35). UVIS transmittance spectra Martian atmosphere allowing measurements vertical distribution density using its Hartley absorption band (200–300 nm). overall comparison to water vapor is found in companion paper this work (Patel et al., 2021, https://doi.org/10.1029/2021JE006837). Our findings indicate presence (a) high-altitude peak 40 60 km altitude north polar latitudes least 45% midnorthern spring, summer-early southern summer, (b) second, but more prominent, south latitudes, lasting 60% including autumn winter seasons. When present, both peaks are observed sunrise sunset occultations, suggesting that layers could persist day. Results from general circulation models predict behavior these used an attempt further our understanding chemical processes controlling Mars.

Lidar measurements of ozone vertical profiles.
Remote measurements of trace constituents using an active technique such as lidar have been made possible for the rapid development of powerful tunable laser sources. This paper, originally presented at the OSA Topical Meeting on Optical Remote Sensing of the Atmosphere, in January 1985, illustrates the differential absorption lidar technique used for the measurement of the ozone vertical distr...

A multi-model study of the long-range transport of ozone and its precursors from major anthropogenic source regions was coordinated by the Task Force on Hemispheric Transport of Air Pollution (TF HTAP) under the Convention on Long-range Transboundary Air Pollution (LRTAP). Vertical profiles of ozone at 12-h intervals from 2001 are available from twelve of the models contributing to this study a...
